At Reddit recently: “Classically trained musicians of Reddit, represent! What’re your favourite pieces of music, and what instrument do you play?”
Selected reply: “Mendelssohn Octet, fuck yeah!”
Which doesn’t exactly get into the first question, but I think the enthusiasm of that response outweighs the incompleteness. Enthusiasm goes a long way, especially when discussing stuff popularly perceived as a bit on the dry side. It’s delightful watching people enthusiastic about classical really tearing into it with their teeth, like a big meaty slab of sirloin. Not sipping it off the end of a spoon like a hoighty-toighty little blob of caviar.
