(W)Here I’ve Been

10 states, 6 days, ~2000 miles of driving:
Biggest surprise: The landscape in South Dakota is like a cross between Yorkshire and Scotland, not jagged and full of fear like I imagined it to be.
Biggest disappointment: Phoenix; hot and gross and pockmarked with interstate.

Well you got the pheonix thing right ^_^”’
I don’t know why anyone would think that a city stranded in the middle of a desert with sun in the sky 300 days a year would be any different, though.
But it’s still home to me…. Why, I still can’t figure out.

You had to have flown a good portion of that. You covered a LOT more than 2000. It’s 2000 miles from Cincinnati to Phoenix one way…
But you saw some great spots, the Black Hills (hopefully you took in Crazy Horse Monument), Southern Colorado, Salt Lake City (well.. no so thrilled about that, but it is very different from much of the rest of the US), Galveston (which is one of the few Texas towns I can stand)and of course New York.
Just think, you’ve only see about 2% of the places here in the US and you’ll get an idea as to why some Americans are so arrogant about the place they live. It’s pretty wonderful. I still think Europe has all that and more, but it’s still a very diverse place. I wish more Americans would travel Europe, Asia, Africa and South America (oh, and Australia). If so, we’d be a much happier world!

I’m sorry, It must be very traumatic :P To be honest we didn’t give it much of a chance. I’m sure there are some nice areas, we just didn’t see anything that wasn’t (a) Beige, and (b) full of onramps.
Chip:
Oh yeah, we flew the majority of the mileage. The Black Hills were beautiful, and the Badlands, and the rolling hills in between. Probably my favorite bit! I’m really glad to have this chance to explore the US a bit more. Travelling makes you more able to interpret your own home, I think.
