Separation
There’s been less than lots of updates here this week, due in significant part to g’s shortly pending department to NYC. This weekend is the move away from the apartment here, and next weekend is the move into Manhattan. Unsurprisingly this means that things are a little lively at the moment. Additionally I’ve been in a bit of classical downturn at the moment, these things go in phases.
Instead, the music colonizing my player has been Mr Scruff, an old favorite:
He was one of the guys I listened primarily to before switching over to almost exclusively classical music. It’s nice to have a bit of a resurgence. The boundaries between musical styles are completely artificial anyway, and there is something constraining and unpleasant about claiming I feel like listening to classical music or non-classical music. It’s all highly-stylized waves of compressed air, in the end.
I’ll leave you with another summery piece of Mr. Scruff, with an actual video this time:
Mmm. Pie.
If only I had one of these…
My research would go so much quicker, better, faster, etc.
Technology years are kind of like dog years: when comparing historical documents they seem about ten times more out of date than the numerical gap would indicate.
No and/or Little Motivation and/or Inspiration
Ah. I’m away from the usual location of work sloggery for a glorious few days of detachment. The grinding of lab has been left back behind four hundred and seventy-seven miles (plus one, for the google map uncatchable on-ramps) of chilly roads. However, my work ethic seems to have been abandoned with my work, and I am quite happily sitting around here not typing. Mostly. If I were to be typing it would probably be about:
- The niceness of having a laptop loaded with music on-hand
- The realization that 1 would be unecessary (or more convenient) given a year of technological advances (alright, I know this doesn’t make much sense when compactified into this subtle little description. What the muttering is hinting at is that I shouldn’t have had to copy everything over – it should all be streamable)
- God, what was three?
So this post is more a motivational effort then anything else, sorry about the lack of content; ideally it’s an inroad to more, actually, interesting things. We shall see how that pans out…
ReComputered!
Hoorah! I’m back online again, at least, although there is a whole bunch of reinstalling and stuff to do before everything is completely as it was before (but better, stronger (?), faster). It seems like all of my files made it through okay, which is the most fantastic news I’ve had all 30 minutes of this morning.
UnComputered
Well… it’s lucky that a few days ago I decided to back up all of my stuff, because two days later my computer decided not to start up ever again. I’ve temporarily stolen my girlfriends laptop, but I don’t have any of my music on here. I hope it’s okay. I should get it all fixed up again tomorrow.
It better bloody be okay!
